Stateline, an initiative of the PEW Charitable Trusts, recently featured YouthBuild USA in an important article highlighting the unique challenges faced by YouthBuild students and opportunity youth as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The article explains the urgent situation YouthBuild USA students are facing and their extreme vulnerability to falling even further into societal disconnection without increased attention and inclusion in national coronavirus relief efforts.
“For youth that are connected to some sort of program, whether it’s work to get a GED or to develop a certain set of skills, all of that is happening online now,” said Mara Tieken, associate professor of education at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. “And if you can’t access broadband, that means that you’re cut off.”
