AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program engaging full-time volunteers in national service for one year, during which they build capacity and sustainability for nonprofit and governmental organizations. Since 1965, VISTA members have served with the mission to strengthen community-based organizations that alleviate poverty.
YouthBuild VISTA members:
YouthBuild VISTA aspires to build capacity at local YouthBuild programs and provide VISTA members with opportunities to develop new skills and acquire professional experience, all while facilitating a positive and meaningful service experience.
Supervisors meet regularly and consistently with VISTA members to facilitate meaningful service experiences, where VISTA members grow professionally by acquiring new skills, engaging in stimulating and challenging work, and expanding their professional networks.
Currently, more than 50 YouthBuild VISTA members serve at 35 YouthBuild programs in 20 states annually. Over 650 YouthBuild VISTA members have served at local YouthBuild programs since 2009. Our VISTA members are YouthBuild graduates, young professionals, former teachers, military veterans, returned Peace Corps members, midcareer professionals, and retired professionals. All have a contagious spirit of service and a commitment to join YouthBuild students and staff in creating a more just and equitable world.
YouthBuild VISTA members manage projects designed to increase the number of YouthBuild students attaining a high school diploma or equivalency, succeeding in postsecondary education, developing job-readiness skills, and engaging in leadership activities.
