National discount retailer’s annual community giving strategy helps strengthen programming in local YouthBuild programs across the country
Burlington Stores, Inc., a national discount retailer offering low prices every day on brand name merchandise for the entire family and home, has raised over $1.3 million from its second annual in-store spring fundraising campaign to benefit global nonprofit YouthBuild USA.
In YouthBuild programs, opportunity youth — young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 who are neither in school nor employed — pursue their education, prepare for future careers and grow into community leaders, building brighter futures for themselves and their neighborhoods. YouthBuild USA is the nonprofit support center for a network of more than 280 local YouthBuild programs across the United States and around the world.
The funds raised will advance YouthBuild USA’s mission and strengthen its programming nationwide. This year, Burlington furthered its partnerships with four nonprofit organizations, including YouthBuild USA, all of whom are committed to creating tangible change by empowering people to live better lives and build better futures.
“This generous support from Burlington enables additional impact and innovation for YouthBuild programs across the country,” said John Valverde, president and CEO of YouthBuild USA. “We’re already seeing the tangible effects of this partnership’s first year on the ground, strengthening YouthBuild USA and our network as we equip opportunity youth with the knowledge, tools, opportunities, and love they need to thrive. We are so grateful this year’s funds will support our work championing young people as they transform their lives and their communities.”
YouthBuild programs across the country have used resources generated from this partnership to bolster education, workforce readiness and leadership programming. Some examples include:
- YouthBuild St. Paul Westside, St. Paul, Minnesota: Used funds to reestablish ties with community partners and improve the recruitment and retention of justice-involved youth.
- YouthBuild Omaha, Omaha, Nebraska: Used funds to strengthen and improve participant engagement and learning through Interplay Learning’s 3D simulation trainings, as well as strengthen community partnerships with local employers.
- Youth Action YouthBuild, East Harlem, New York: Used funds to design a community food giveaway and outreach event, giving back to their community and creating awareness for their program.
